The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applicants for a postdoctoral scholar position, in the Gorodetsky Group. The positions will present a unique opportunity to participate in a collaborative effort between the Gorodetsky Group in Chemical Engineering at UC Irvine and the Chen Group in Physics at UCF. The start date is negotiable (tentatively March to May 2019).
The main focus of the position will be the characterization of proton-conducting materials with solid state NMR (ssNMR) spectroscopy. We are therefore seeking a recent PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field with expertise in heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy of soft materials. Prior familiarity in Magic Angle Spinning (MAS) ssNMR, especially operation of Agilent/Variant system in VNMRJ is preferred. Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification, polymer processing and characterization, multi-dimensional NMR spectral processing by NMRPipe and assignments in Sparky NMR, and structural determination with Xplor-NIH (or similar programs) are all highly desirable.
The initial appointment would be for one year, with the possibility of an extension, depending on performance. The position will come with a highly competitive salary, as well as generous benefits. Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae and the names of at least three references.
