The Interim Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the deputy to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. He/She is a member of the Academic Affairs Executive Staff and a member of the College Leadership Team. The Interim ASVP leads the AQIP accreditation process under the supervision of the VP for Academic Affairs. He/She works collaboratively with the Institutional Research & Decision Support Services to lead Academic Affairs research, quality initiatives, strategic planning, assessment, curriculum development, e-learning, articulation, site management and special projects (such as Achieve the Dream, second chance Pell, academic outreach projects, stem scholars). In working collaboratively with the above said office, the ASVP avoids duplicative efforts.
The Interim ASVP for Academic Affairs will supervise the Manager of e-Learning, University and Workplace Partnerships, Site Directors, Curriculum Systems Coordinator, Academic Outreach Coordinator, and a shared administrative assistant.
1. Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
2. A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the college level.
3. A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated academic leadership experience.
4. Experience in college accreditation processes.
5. Budget experience that encompasses the management of resources and the reconciliation of competing needs in excess of available resources.
6. Experience in managing /supervising staff.
7. Demonstrated ability in facilitating groups as well as planning, organizing, and conducting meetings.
8. Knowledge of and experience in interpreting state and federal regulations as well as pending legislation impacting research, accreditation, and overall assessment.
9. High energy level, sense of humor, diplomatic/tactful, and passionate about the dimensions of this position.
10. Excellent organizational and problem solving skills including the ability to anticipate needs and concerns of stakeholders.
11. History of being open-minded, supportive, trustworthy, and fair.
12. Demonstrated project planning and management, time management, and priority setting skills. Ability to work successfully in a high stress environment, handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Demonstrated history of on-time delivery of projects; project coordination; and anticipation of issues.
13. A commitment to and understanding of the mission of a comprehensive community college
14. Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening, with demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people. Must have the ability to work as a team member, foster a cooperative work environment and maintain effective relationships.
15. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency with standard office productivity software and tools.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
2. Experience writing and managing grants, meeting timelines, and demonstrating knowledge of compliance issues.
3. Experience in analytical systems, assessment, institutional research or decision support planning
4. Teaching and/or administrative experience in a community college environment.
5. Experience working in a unionized environment.
6. Budget experience encompassing grant development and management experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
1. With or without accommodation, the employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to access files and operate office productivity machines. The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone. It is necessary to communicate both in person, over the telephone, and computer email with a large variety of people each day. It is also essential to occasionally transport up to 10 pounds. The employee must, with or without accommodation, have the ability to detect information on a computer screen, for example checking email or creating spreadsheets.
2. The minimum reasoning skills necessary for this position include the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
3. The minimum language skills necessary for this position include the ability to read, interpret and research documents such as technical and business reports and procedure manuals. The person must also have the ability to write complex reports and correspondence and be able to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
4. The minimum mathematical skills necessary for this position include the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. The person must also have the ability to apply concepts of algebra.
5. Must be able to remain in a stationary position frequently (approximately (20-30%) of the time.
• Willingness and ability to work the hours necessary to meet the needs of our customers and achieve departmental goals, including work outside of the standard office hours and weekends
