Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE), at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking to hire a full-time post-doc fellow who will be part of Dr. Kejin Wang’s research team working on advanced and sustainable cement and concrete materials. This postdoc will be an essential member of the research team that collaborates with other researchers at CCEE and ISU to develop innovative research plan and carry out existing research projects.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply advanced experimental, numerical, and analytical techniques for characterization of cement-based concrete materials.

  • Employ advanced modeling methods for prediction of engineering properties of advanced concrete materials, such as nano-material modified concrete and 3D-printing concrete.

  • Synthesize and/or formulate sustainable cementitious materials using recycled and waste materials and conduct experimental evaluation of the material performance according to ASTM standards.

  • Plan and perform experiments/computations, data analysis and interpretation, and prepare reports and manuscripts under a minimal supervision.

  • Supervise and work with graduate students in the research group and performs other duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD or Doctoral Degree
 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Having a Ph.D. degree with a specialization in construction materials

  • Extensive knowledge of the cement hydration, concrete chemistry, mechanical properties, and durability.

  • Extensive experience in using rheometer, SEM, XRD, TGA, TEM, FTIR, DLS, and nano-indentation or similar analytical techniques.

  • A working knowledge of numerical modeling methods of hydration reaction of cement material.

  • Good experience in one or more programming/scripting languages like MATLAB or Python.

  • Motivated, friendly, and inclusive working attitude and strong ability to work with a wide variety of individuals
