Molecular Biosciences


Position Overview

The Department of Molecular Biosciences and KU Cancer Center, University of Kansas, seeks a postdoctoral researcher with interests in cancer biology. The successful candidate will be engaged in a project investigating the mechanisms of colon and pancreatic tumor development. The project will involve extracellular vesicles, mouse genetics, cancer cell biology, gene expression analysis, and other techniques such as genome editing, RNA sequencing, and drug discovery. The applicant should be motivated, organized, detail-oriented, work well with others, have a willingness to learn, and be able to participate in many different lab activities. Doctoral degree conferred at the time of appointment, not to exceed six months from the date of hire. The position is limited term with a typical duration of 1-5 years; it is contingent upon funding and has an initial 1-year limited term with the possibility of renewal. Individuals who have served as a postdoctoral fellow/researcher for up to five years in the same area of research are not eligible.


Job Description

  • 50% Conduct primary research on the mechanisms of colon and pancreatic tumor development.
  • 20% Collaborate and direct graduate and undergraduate students to support the overall research program.
  • 20% Publish and present research results. Write grant proposals to further funding of research program.
  • 10% General laboratory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in the area of biology, chemistry, or a related field, and should be early in their postdoctoral state.
  • Experience with cell and molecular biological techniques as evidenced by application materials.
  • Documented research productivity as evidenced by application materials.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work productively in a collaborative environment as evidenced by application materials.
  • NOTE:

    To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed 6-months.


    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular and cell biology and or biochemistry laboratory research.
  • Experience with mouse┬áhandling.
  • Experience with gene expression analysis.
