JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Avery (http://www.julianaverylab.com/ ) and Toews Lab’s (http://www.davetoews.com/ ) at The Pennsylvania State University—in partnership with the Pennsylvania Game Commission—are seeking to hire a postdoctoral scholar research associate. The researcher will generate and analyze high-throughput DNA sequencing data to quantify historical genetic diversity changes and spatial population structure in Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus). Populations of the Ruffed Grouse are declining in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States and the goal of this project is to use molecular information to better inform management of this species.

The position requires a Ph.D. degree in biology, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or a related field, and the applicant must be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for the completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire. Familiarity with generating high-throughput sequencing libraries from vertebrates and using bioinformatic tools to infer genetic structure is preferred, as well as experience using a Unix or Linux environment. Some field experience and/or natural history knowledge of birds is beneficial. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter describing their research interests, a current CV, and contact information for three references. This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding for an additional year. This position will be located at Penn State in University Park. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
