Location UAHS - Tucson
Address University of Arizona Health Sciences, Tucson, AZ USA
Position Highlights The laboratories of Dr. Deepta Bhattacharya in the Department of Immunobiology, College of Medicine and Dr. Michael Worobey in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, College of Science, seek a recently graduated postdoctoral researcher to help carry out a project to understand how cross-reactivity between SARS-CoV-2 and its common cold-causing relatives, the endemic human coronaviruses, shape immune responses to SARS-CoV-2. Prior exposure of most individuals to human coronavirus antigens, some of which are conserved with respect to SARS-CoV-2, suggests that antigenic imprinting may play a crucial role with SARS-CoV-2 and the etiology of COVID-19. If so, these immune phenomena could have important implications for understanding the extreme variation across individuals in disease severity, for producing therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2 and related viruses, and for designing vaccines. This position will include investigation of how prior exposure to human coronaviruses shapes B cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 and influences COVID-19 severity, as well as development of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies targeted to coronavirus epitopes that are conserved between SARS-CoV-2, human coronaviruses, and, perhaps, some animal coronaviruses.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
