Position Highlights The Eggers Lab in the UArizona Departments of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering is seeking highly motivated candidates for the full-time position of Postdoctoral Research Associate I -II (depending on experience). Dr. Eggers’s NIH-funded research incorporates physiological light stimulation, electrophysiology, immunohistochemical and optogenetic approaches to identify cellular, synaptic and molecular mechanisms that underlie changes in retinal neurons in diabetes. The goal of current studies is to determine how retinal calcium and dopamine signaling are altered in multiple levels of the rod pathway during early stages of diabetes and to identify potential targets for treatment. More information on our current research interests can be found at: The Eggers laboratory is in the Departments of Physiology and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arizona and is part of University of Arizona collaborative programs in Physiological Sciences, Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering that involve faculty, students and postdocs from across campus. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead a research project in close collaboration with the PI and other lab members.
  • Innovate new areas of experimental inquiry.
  • Advance technical aspects of experimental approaches and mechanistic understanding of biological problem.
  • Mentor junior lab members and contribute to a productive scientific environment.
  • Maintain detailed records and disseminate research findings in meetings and as manuscripts in scientific journals.
  • Apply for independent funding and contribute to grant proposals submitted by the PI.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in physiology, neuroscience, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related field by time of hire.
  • Documented ability to conduct original research.
  • Ability to work with small animals.
  • Must be eligible to use ITAR equipment.
Preferred Qualifications *Experience or interest in visual neurophysiology. *Experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology, calcium imaging, optogenetics or other functional recording methods. *Experience with programming in Matlab. *Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
