JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A postdoctoral position is available in the López-Uribe lab at The Pennsylvania State University to work on the disease ecology of viruses in honey bees and wild bees. Qualified candidates are required to have a Ph.D. and provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire in entomology, biology, or related fields of study. 

The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will be to quantify viral loads (via qPCR) and immunological responses of different honey bee genetic stocks and several wild bee species. In addition, there will be opportunities to get involved in extension work transferring knowledge from this research to beekeepers in the northeastern region. Expertise in quantitative PCR and expression analysis is required. Previous experience working with bees is desirable. The person in this position will also have lab managing responsibilities including ordering supplies, maintaining the record of the chemical, and other minor lab managing responsibilities. It is expected that the appointee will be involved in grant writing, mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and outreach/extension activities.


This is a benefited, full-time postdoctoral scholar position. The initial appointment is for one year, reappointment beyond the first year (up to one additional year) is contingent upon job performance.
