The Cardiac Biomechanics Group at the University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop and test computational models of heart growth and remodeling in response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). In collaboration with Dr. Ken Bilchick (Cardiology) at the University of Virginia and a team at Siemens Healthineers Technology Center, we are building multiscale models to predict patient-specific outcomes following CRT in patients with heart failure for use in treatment planning and guidance. The team will employ finite-element, compartmental, and differential-equation-based models of subcellular, cellular, and organ-level processes and remodeling.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field by the start date, and must have extensive experience with computational modeling. Candidates must also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Successful applicants will have performed computational modeling studies that resulted in lead-author publications in biomedical engineering, computational modeling, and/or computer science journals. Prior experience in MATLAB programming is preferred.
