Assistant Professor of Sociology

SUMMARY OF POSITION:   Responsibilities include teaching various introductory level sociology classes, student advising, record keeping, committee work, and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or the Dean of Humanities, Arts, & Sciences.

• Continuously – 66-100% - Talk or hear. 

• Frequently – 34-65% - Stand, walk, or sit, Use hands dexterously. 

• Occasionally – 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, taste or smell, or lift up to 25 pounds.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Master’s degree in Sociology or related sub-field or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Sociology, related sub-field, or equivalent coursework. 
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
3. Ability to articulate and support the community college philosophy with a strong commitment to teaching and learning in a community college setting. 
4. Good computer software skills - Microsoft Office, email and Outlook calendar.
5. Ability to work as a team member. 
6. Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Doctoral degree in Sociology or related sub-field.
2. Documented successful teaching experience in post-secondary sociology.
3. Experience with a variety of teaching resources, media and technologies, including computer-aided instruction and/or online instruction technologies.
4. Experience with non-traditional teaching methods such as facilitating group work, use of inquiry-based and other active learning pedagogies, and/or contextualized instruction.
5. Experience teaching with technology and a willingness to explore innovative course delivery methods.
