Department Information
The Career Pathways Department is seeking to hire a part-time faculty member to teach non-credit, workforce-focused, PASS Lane computer courses. Instructional modality may include any
of the following: online, in-person, live streaming, hybrid or hyflex.
Currently, we are looking for someone to teach basic computer literacy (such as digital documents and spreadsheets), career and labor market research, professional communication skills, and/or job search strategies. These classes will be developed and marketed with our community workforce partners, and would be targeted to dislocated workers, job seekers, GED and ESL students, vocational rehabilitation participants, and other workforce clients.

Salary/Compensation Statement:
- Our application is used to determine the initial salary placement for selected candidates. All employment and education history will be considered.

- The Part-time Faculty benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability and paid sick leave. Part-time faculty may be eligible for full contracted benefits after meeting certain criteria.
Working Schedule:
Assignments are made on a term-by-term basis based on department need and follow processes outlined in the LCCEA faculty contract, including Article 34.

Required QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Computers, ESL, TESOL, Special Education, Career Counseling, Employment Services or a related field.
Required Experience:
- One (1) year of classroom teaching of adults, secondary or special education students.
- One (1) year full-time equivalent teaching digital literacy or computer skills at any level OR one (1) year full-time equivalent teaching employment skills such as resume development, career exploration, interview skills, dependable strengths, etc. OR a one (1) year combination of both. This can be a combination of formal instruction and individual coaching.
- One (1) year of experience working with under-skilled, high-risk, and high barrier populations.
Conditions of Employment:

- Must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.

Preferred Experience
Recent (within 5 years):
- Experience teaching adults in a community college or a workforce services setting.
- Experience teaching digital literacy or general computer skills.
- Experience teaching and developing new curriculum related to computers.
- Experience teaching and developing new curriculum related to employment skills.
- Experience teaching one or more of the following populations: dislocated workers, unhoused populations, adults with learning disabilities, first-generation immigrants.
- Experience teaching and/or using labor market tools, job search tools, and other career-related tools.

Position Purpose:
To teach non-credit, open enrollment, workforce-focused, PASS Lane computer classes with integrated employment skills and academic skills. Career Pathways and PASS Lane courses generally focus on labor market research and exploration, soft skills, and reading/writing/study skills in the context of various Career Technical programs.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to create courses focused on digital literacy, labor market and career research, soft skills such as professional communication, job search strategies, as well as reading and writing.
- Use of instructional methods geared toward adult learners, English Language learners, and individuals with limited digital literacy.
- Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, and ensure the timely submission of reports.
- Help students access support services, college and employment resources.
- Communicate effectively, respectfully, and work productively with students of diverse backgrounds, but not limited to: students of color, bilingual students, unhoused students, students from various cultures, older students, and students with disabilities.
- Develop and maintain collaborations with community and workforce programs, as well as instructional linkages with faculty from other programs, departments, or instructional units to enhance program offerings, student access, retention, and successful transition.
- Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and/or other required documentation in both electronic and hard copy formats.
- Report and record in a timely manner as required by department and college policy.
- Continually evaluate and assess student outcomes through appropriate assessment tools/methods; actively utilize results to inform improvements at a program and course level.
- Faculty with teaching duties are responsible for evaluating student achievement, of clearly identified learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, as well as to meet accreditation requirements.
- Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Support student learning through activities that include:
- Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions.
- Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching.
- Collegial participation in the faculty performance evaluation process.
- Maintain and post-teaching schedule, regular meetings and office hours.
- Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college and community, as specified in the College Online Policy and Procedure System.
- Ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory.
Curriculum Delivery
- Provide high-quality classroom instruction.
- Develop and modify input in collaboration with Career Pathways team and other CTE departments.
- Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials.
- Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level.
- Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula.
- Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students.
- Confer with students on course materials.
- Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats.
Online Teaching and Student Support
- Expect to make use of the Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle to publish and update content, post grades and promote student engagement amongst students with course content.
- Use multiple modes of communication tools including online publishing, audio and video tools.
- Be present within the online course to interact with students, help guide asynchronous discussions and provide opportunities for students’ voices to be heard within the online course.
- Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success.
- Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback.
- Respond to student inquiries within 48 business hours.
- Ensure that all materials created are accessible and meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Post student attendance, grades, and course syllabus to the college LMS in accordance with college timelines.
- Use current best practices and pedagogies for teaching online including the application of online course quality frameworks for clearly providing course learning objectives to students, while consistently setting clear weekly and term long expectations for work and assessment.

Supervision Statement:
Career Pathways faculty report to the Associate Vice-President of CTE and Workforce Development, and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college: Lane Vision, Mission, Values
Work may be overseen by a faculty coordinator.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. This position may work with individuals who may be hostile or abusive. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work Safely.

- Strong knowledge of computer skills, and the ability to teach computer skills to those with low digital literacy.
- Strong knowledge of employment skills development and resources.

- Maintaining and managing records.
- Knowledge of labor market tools and job research strategies or ability to learn these tools and strategies so as to integrate into computer classes.

- Formatively adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of unpredictable classroom populations.
- Apply adult learning theories, special education, reading, and/or ESL teaching methods such as assessment to instruction, direct instruction, cooperative learning, multi-sensory instruction, and integration of prior learning into current coursework.
- Work with culturally diverse classes and work with colleagues in teams that contribute to program and college goals, and use effective interpersonal skills to work with students from culturally diverse groups.
