Come work with the Transformation Network team to address the most interesting social-ecological questions facing the Intermountain West—how it will take on the challenge of wildfire and associated impacts to watersheds in the Anthropocene. This position will help us understand how and where novel wildfire-watershed governance systems are created and whether different governance systems vary in terms of adaptive management, effectiveness, and fairness, as well as other identified outcomes during our research engagement.

The research will be part of an interdisciplinary team working to address the most interesting social-ecological questions facing the Intermountain West—how it will take on the challenge of wildfire and associated impacts to watersheds in the Anthropocene. This position will help us understand how and where novel wildfire-watershed governance systems are created and whether different governance systems vary in terms of adaptive management, effectiveness, and fairness, as well as other identified outcomes during our research engagement.

This work will include working as part of a team to:

• Identify where new governance mechanisms are emerging to address wildfire risks, mitigation, and post-fire response;

• Build a broad inventory of current governance approaches to addressing wildfire risk on public, private, and tribal lands in the study areas;

• Characterize innovative governance systems and barriers, including developing a watershed-specific case study analysis across the study sites; and

• Work with communities in convergent research designs to identify research questions and methods that will address questions they have about the efficacy of their approaches to watershed protection.

This is a one-year position, with a possible one-year extension. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum qualifications:

• Completion of a PhD degree by start date of appointment (August 2022).

• Social science background as part of educational training or professional experience.

Preferred qualifications:

• Working knowledge of methodological programs and platforms such as SPSS, Stata, R, NVIVO, etc.

• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders

• A strong interest in applied social science research related to water or forest resources

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
