About the Department
The Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University is the first endowed academic department in the entire University of North Carolina System and is one of 11 departments within the College of Engineering at NC State. The primary purpose of the department is to provide a sound fundamental education to undergraduate and graduate students (both Master’s and Doctoral) and to conduct basic and applied research in emerging areas of industrial and systems engineering.
The department coordinates with other graduate programs like Engineering Management, Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Operations Research, and Engineering Online. The department also is heavily involved in outreach activities to industry and plays a vital role in fulfilling the missions of the College of Engineering and the University.
Essential Job Duties
The Lecturer will teach undergraduate or graduate classes in the department for spring, fall, and/or summer sessions. Applicants can outline any courses in the curriculum and special topics they can teach.
In 2022-2023, we anticipate specific needs especially in the areas of manufacturing, supply chain management (ISE 552, ISE 553), computing (ISE 519, ISE 535), or special topics such as sustainability, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or engineering management.

Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum MS degree in industrial engineering, operations research, computer science, statistics, manufacturing, or a related field and appropriate professional experience is required. A doctorate degree in related fields will be required to teach graduate and post-baccalaureate coursework.
Other Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching at the college or university level in industrial engineering, operations research, computer science, statistics, manufacturing, ergonomics, or a related field.
