Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine’s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.
A full time Post Doc Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. David Newburg in the Department of Environmental & Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. This postdoctoral position will utilize glycobiology/mass spectrometry and work in a state-of-the-art lab using a new Agilent QQQ for LC-MS analysis of bioactive carbohydrates. The lab has 4 years of funding for research on oligosaccharides that influence infection by SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and major respiratory pathogens of children. Research will involve mucosal immunology, pro-inflammatory signaling, and the respiratory and intestinal microbiota. The successful applicant will be part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team.

Essential Functions
- Conduct analysis of human milk oligosaccharides (hMOS) from funded cohort studies using mass spectrometry.
- Analyze data regarding the impact of hMOS on the microbiome and risk of respiratory and enteric infections in young children.
- Contribute to studies of the impact of hMOS on mucosal immunology.
- Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
- Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
- May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
- Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
- Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.

Minimum Requirements
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree required.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
