FAQ Job Title
Research Associate Global Ctr DWC (Limited Term)
Job Description
Do you want to use your research skills to address pressing education and development issues facing children and adolescents? Are you motivated by working with practitioners to ensure that they can use data and evidence to improve their programs for children and adolescents? If yes, come join us at the University of Notre Dame’s Global Center for the Development of the Whole Child (GC-DWC). Our team collaborates with researchers and practitioners to ensure the wellbeing—physical, emotional, social, and cognitive—of children and adolescents in low-resource and fragile settings. Established to serve as a coherent platform for the Institute for Educational Initiative’s growing portfolio of global child development and learning programs, GC-DWC creates environments that foster resilience and encourage children and adolescents to thrive. Using an innovative whole child development approach tailored to context-specific realities, GC-DWC translates research into action, creates research tools to improve program learning and policy action, and activates systems (families, schools, communities) to help children and adolescents thrive.
The GC-DWC is looking to recruit a Research Associate to join our growing team. This individual works closely with research and program colleagues across GC-DWC supported initiatives to ensure that the data and evidence that we collect about children and adolescents’ learning and development is translated into practical program changes and communication messages. The position will work principally on GC-DWC’s portfolio of programs and applied research being implemented with partners in Haiti. Daily functions will include conducting literature reviews, capturing notes during internal and external meetings, reviewing and editing reports, assisting with study planning and logistics, translating materials and conversations between English and French, training partners in Haiti (virtually or in person), managing data collection and systems.
Data collection and analysis: (1) train assessors/facilitators, remotely or in-person, (2) coordinate the collection and management of high-quality quantitative and qualitative data, (3) manage the secure and organized storing of GC-DWC data, (4) clean data in preparation for analysis
Research coordination & capacity strengthening: (1) plan and coordinate research activities with in-country staff and partners, (2) digitize surveys for electronic data collection, (3) prepare guidance/protocols for survey administration, assessor training, and qualitative data collection
Knowledge management and dissemination: (1) prepare research reports and briefers for technical and non-technical audiences, (2) support the preparation of presentations, (3) help organize and participate in learning events, (4) support translation of documents and communication between English and French
Strategic Planning: (1) stay current in relevant literature and best practices, conducting literature reviews as needed, (2) work with GC-DWC staff to develop new project proposals.
