Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Post-Doctoral fellow will contribute to the soybean, plant-based protein crops and millets breeding programs by participating in activities and conducting experiments related to study of crop production, plant genetics, physiology, stress responses including nutrient stress, and breeding. Work will involve field and lab research and experiments related to cultivar and germplasm development and associated research project in breeding and crop production using phenomics and genomics tools.
This position will have flexibility to design experiments that relate to improving cropping systems, and soil-water-air-crop interactions utilizing root and canopy traits information (for example, soil health, plant/microbe interactions, nutrient acquisition and efficiency) and their relationship to seed yield and quality traits. The position will provide technical and scientific support for project implementation within the areas of breeding and production. Other responsibilities will include field breeding related tasks from planting to harvest, and data analysis. The successful candidate will have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and will lead as well as assist in preparation of reports, papers and grants. They will be self-motivated research, with effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to meet research and work deadlines. This is a team environment with multiple inter-disciplinary projects.
Summary of duties and responsibilities: (1) conduct independent research and lead projects, which include other team members, (2) publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, (3) responsible for data collection of crop production, breeding, genetics, physiology, pathology, entomology, phenomics experiments, (4) participate in developing grant proposals or writing proposals, (5) assist with writing reports to communicate research results and progress to the project stakeholders, (6) assist with the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in the lab, (7) assist in cultivar development activities throughout the year, and (8) minor activities related to lab and resources management.
