Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor provides academic advising for undergraduate students majoring in electrical and computer engineering, assists with related academic administrative matters, and supports various special programs in the Department.

Experience:
- A minimum of two years of professional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience in higher education, student affairs, or a related field can substitute for experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A deep commitment to diversity and inclusion with the ability to build an excellent rapport with students.
- Student-centered in advising students and a commitment to their educational development.
- Detail-oriented with superior organizational, interpersonal, communication, and oral and written presentation skills, with high attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, create, and optimize processes and procedures when necessary.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
- Ability to set priorities and handle multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
- Possess enthusiasm and a positive approach to work, diplomatic in working with people with competing priorities.
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office tools or equivalent.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- A Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
- Experience in undergraduate academic advising, higher education student personnel administration, and/or counseling in a higher education setting.
- Prior experience with peer mentoring programs and/or advising college students.
- Knowledge of the University of Maryland College Park.

- Ability to traverse short/long distances on and off campus to attend meetings and events.
- Position requires involvement in the set-up, break-down and staging at meetings and special events.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary, and for minimal travel.
