What We Want
The Department of Geography at Texas A&M University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA). The successful candidate will have a PhD Degree and research experience in a field relating to the social sciences with quantitative skills. We seek someone with experience working with complex datasets using statistical programs such as STATA and R. The PDRA is responsible for working with an interdisciplinary team to support and analyze a multi-sited study, manage and coordinate the development of a new round of data collection on household water insecurity in higher-income contexts with some HWISE-RCN members, an NSF-funded initiative that supports a network of over 150 international water researchers, and provide administrative support for the HWISE-RCN (https://hwise-rcn.org/ ). The PDRA will participate in and, if desired, lead research papers that develop from these efforts, assist with policy briefs and presentation materials, and represent the program at meetings and seminars. The selected candidate will require strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, maintain overall program mission, conduct data analysis, curate complex datasets, develop data protocols, and work cooperatively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team environment. This position will require day-to-day team interaction with, liaison between, and coordination of a wide range of internal and external constituencies. Required Education and Experience:
Appropriate Phd.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Authorization to work in the US.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with scholarship on domain-related themes related to human development, human health, sustainability science, and socio-environmental research.
Quantitative skills.
Advance analysis skills in social science using statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, LISREL/AMOS).
Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and presentation skills) and excellent academic writing skills in English.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements:
Will consider remote working arrangements on a case-by-case basis.
Preferred Education and Experience:
PhD in social science geography, sociology, statistics, global health, demography, international development, or other related fields.
Experience relevant to quantitative social science.
Research experience with various statistical programs, including STATA and R, and complex datasets.
An emerging track record in academic peer-reviewed publications.
Quantitative experience.
Experience in basic shell scripting and building public-facing web-applications (and their content distribution).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Commitment to all aspects of Open Science (including the use of version control systems such as GitHub), and a willingness to robustly document your code, is important.
Responsibilities:
Research- This position requires strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, maintain overall program mission, conduct data analysis, curate complex datasets, develop data protocols, and work cooperatively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team environment. The person in this position supports the research team and project objectives, leads and contributes to academic publications, participates in team meetings, and presents research in various contexts.
Program Coordination-Coordinate aspects of the Household Water Insecurity Experiences Research Coordination Network as part of this collaboration. It will require day-to-day team interaction with, liaison between, and coordination of a wide range of internal and external constituencies involved in program activities. This work responsibility includes writing, editing, and developing a newsletter as appropriate to the program. Performs administrative support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence. May perform specialized activities of a programmatic nature in direct support of the accomplishment of program objectives.
Project Management-Organize and manage project data, arrange events and meetings relating to the project, engage in project management, and contribute to the analysis and dissemination of research. Performs other duties as assigned.
