The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, is hiring a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Sadayappan Laboratory (https://researchdirectory.uc.edu/p/sadayasl). The Sadayappan Lab has major research interests in striated muscle biology, distal arthrogryposis and cardiomyopathies. We currently focus on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms underlying skeletal and cardiac muscle diseases, using a combination of molecular, cellular, genomic and mouse genetic (conditional knockout, transgenic and mutant knock-in) approaches, toward the goals of translational research and drug discovery.

The incumbent will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.

• Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
• Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
• Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
• Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
• Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
• Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
• May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
• Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. 
• Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. 

Doctoral Degree in Biotechnology, Pharmacology, Biology, or a related field.

• Knowledge and experience working with cardiomyocytes.
• Handling animals and performing surgical procedures for heart disease.

• Cardiac muscle gene regulation and physiology.
• Strong scholarship.
• Recognition in cardiac biology as evidenced by a) national/international awards, b) presentations at national/international meetings, and c) publications.
• Molecular assays, including PCR, RT-PCR, Westerns, immunostaining for histological analyses, as well as DNA cloning, and animal studies.
• Independent experimental design.

• Publications (book chapters, manuscripts, articles, scientific presentations), especially as a first author, are ideal.
• Ideal candidates should have a bibliography of their publications and presentations.
