Department Information
The Department of Resident Life serves a highly diverse population of approximately 12,500 undergraduate students living in traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites including some public/private partnership apartment communities. About 46% of all resident students are enrolled in twelve living-learning programs covering a wide array of academic areas. Resident Life employs a diverse workforce of 88 full-time and graduate staff members and about 600 undergraduate student staff members. General Description of Duties
The Graduate Coordinator works collaboratively with the Data Analyst in planning and implementing Department of Resident Life research and assessment projects. The primary focuses involve project management, survey development, data analysis and reporting. Typical projects include surveys to measure satisfaction, program evaluation, and special projects related to department or division goals.
Specific Duties
- Performing data management responsibilities; including manipulation of datasets using Excel, preparation of datasets for data analysis using programming software (specifically coding), and analyzing data using SPSS other syntax-based analysis programs.
- Creating Tableau dashboards and interactive reports.
- Assisting with project management including coordination and training of staff, tracking and responding to project issues, and overseeing data collection procedures.
- Assisting with development of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, e.g., web-based and pencil/paper surveys.
- Participate as a member of department and university committees and represent the department at various campus and community functions as requested, including major departmental functions such as move-in and Fall Welcome.
- Assisting with other departmental or office tasks as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a University of Maryland, College Park graduate program.
Experience:
Background (coursework or experience) in data science, data management, higher education or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to work both with minimal supervision and collaboratively
- Basic knowledge of research design, and quantitative & qualitative statistical analysis (specifically SPSS, R, or SAS) in addition to strong computer skills (especially Excel)
- Ability to adhere to university requirements and policies regarding confidentiality of educational records
- Highly motivated with excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented.

- Demonstrated experience with Tableau data visualization software, including preparing of data files for dashboard reporting and production of interactive reports, as well as programming and open source coding
- Completion of a master’s research thesis (or comparable research project) and knowledge of Student Affairs are strongly desired
- Expertise in conducting quantitative data analysis using syntax-based software packages, such as SPSS syntax, R, or SAS
- Experience with Qualtrics XM web-based survey platform
- Experience presenting research or assessment results to a variety of audiences, such as student affairs staff and students; ability to translate research findings to practitioners
- Experience working within higher education, student affairs, or resident life
Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment
This is a 12-month, live-off position which requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week, including some evening and occasional weekend hours. On occasion, additional hours may be required to perform job responsibilities. The position will begin in early to mid July (the date is still being determined).
Remuneration
The term of this position is the beginning of July 2023 to the end of June 2024. This role has an annualized stipend of at least $32,304, which is the 2022-2023 base salary set by the Graduate School and may be adjusted annually. Graduate Assistants are eligible to enroll in university health insurance programs at the regular staff rate. Tuition remission is provided and is credited at the prevailing standard in-state credit hour rate at the time the course is taken. Tuition remission does not cover additional university fees. Enrollees in programs that do not follow the standard in-state tuition rate or maximum allowable credits per semester, summer sessions, or winter term will be responsible for associated fees and the difference in tuition costs.

Physical Demands
Normal office environment – Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negotiable amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to travel around campus for meetings and to attend to duties.
