Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Feller Center for Advising and Career Planning serves over 5,000 undergraduate students in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS). This is an entry level, full time, professional, academic advising position. It includes academic advising, teaching a first-year student seminar, and providing administrative support to the Associate Director. The person in this position should have an interest in working with students. The Feller Center is a service organization whose constituents are undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in advising.
Preferences:
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- Degree preferred in College Student Personnel/ Higher Education Administration/ Counseling/ Psychology or related field.
- Experience in higher education advising or counseling is preferred.
- Knowledge of human development, student development and higher education.
- Strong assessment, organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, ability to provide service, work independently and cooperatively.
- Be accurate and flexible.
Additional Information:
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide academic advising to undergraduate students in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, including information about requirements, help with course selection and academic program planning.
- Help students in academic difficulty and, if necessary, refer to appropriate campus offices.
- Assist with various functions in the Feller Center including orientation, training, teaching and administration.
- Teach a one credit first year student seminar including, curriculum planning and student evaluation.
- Undertake special projects for the benefit of the college, such as advising research, evaluations and programming for students and staff.
- Facilitate outreach efforts utilizing campus systems to effectively communicate information on behalf of the Feller Center. This includes using the College’s media-platforms and updating the center’s website.
- Support BSOS students pursuing combination bachelors/masters programs.
- Must possess strong administrative skills with attention to detail for updating academic requirements and information.
