Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The College of Information Studies (iSchool) at the University of Maryland seeks applications to fill the open position of Assistant Dean for Finance and Operations. Reporting to the Dean, this position works closely with the other members of the dean’s leadership team and with the dean’s academic team to help set the financial and operational roadmap for the College.
This critical position is responsible for the financial and operational affairs of the College. Primary areas of responsibility include financial management, information technology services, facilities management, long-range resource and space planning, human resources, and core College administration and operations. This position will manage three senior Directors that make up the finance and operations leadership team to plan and execute an operational vision that meets current and future needs of our growing College.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s Degree required, preferably in accounting, finance, management or a related field.
Experience:
- 10+ years of financial, managerial, and administrative experience in an institution of higher education including experience as an Assistant Dean, a Director, or equivalent position.
- Must have functional experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Managing finances of a complex organization
- Overseeing HR and payroll operations
- Management of sponsored projects
- Overseeing operational functions of a unit to include, but not limited to, IT and Facilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence/motivate all levels of staff, ability to clearly articulate policies and decisions to all levels of staff. Excellent communication skills are a must.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
- Advanced project management skills, including the capability to manage capital projects.
- Experience managing staff in a University setting; ability to coach and train staff; Excellent management and leadership skills are a must.
- The position requires excellent skills in leading budget and financial management, human resources, and administration; sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information; leadership and interpersonal skills to help build, adapt, and maintain a collaborative and team-based work environment; and analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise with campus systems and processes.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures, and systems in the following areas: budget and finance, accounting, contract and grant administration, human resources, labor relations, bargaining agreements, academic and staff personnel policies, payroll, business services, procurement, operations, risk management, facilities and space, safety, and emergency response.
- The position requires political acumen and the capacity to handle a large number of assignments with sensitivity to priorities, shifting demands, and to consequences

- Experience with change management and leadership in higher education.
- Administrative leadership experience in the UMCP Division of Academic Affairs
- Thorough knowledge of and experience with UMCP policies, procedures, and systems in the following areas: budget and finance, accounting, contract and grant administration, human resources, labor relations, bargaining agreements, academic and staff personnel policies, payroll, business services, procurement, operations, risk management, facilities and space, safety, and emergency response.
- Interest in developing a thorough knowledge of the College’s academic, research, and public service programs, and committed to building and maintaining a school that is well managed and characterized by high quality service, professionalism, and solid financial and administrative planning.
