Essential Job Duties
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives, the incumbent will serve as the chief financial officer for Academic and Student Affairs, and will be responsible for providing oversight and managing resources for a complex university division: $133 million in multiple funding sources (state appropriations, student fees, auxiliaries/receipts, gifts, and grants), 600 professional staff and faculty, temporary and over 2,000 student staff. This position will also lead strategic and financial planning initiatives; oversees a team of seven permanent staff.
Primary responsibilities:
- projects and committees to improve division operations; collaborate across all levels of division leadership and staff
- Monitor, assess, and advise on the financial impact of trends in higher education and student affairs to the division, and adjust business practices in accordance with trends.
- Provide continual assessment of effectiveness of internal operations, systems and structures; determine and institute best practices within university, peer institutions, higher education; recommend and implement changes as necessary
- Ensure that the division’s business systems and structure align with the division’s strategic plan and values
- Provide continual assessment of internal processes and controls to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness; provide regular, ongoing audit of business practices
- Develop and implement division-wide training and regular communications to enhance business organization and support staff
- Advise Vice Chancellor and Dean and Associate Vice Chancellor on optimal allocation of financial and human resources; analyze, assess, present scenarios and recommend changes
- Maintain consistent communication regarding business and financial information and updates, including division-level communications to director level personnel and above
- Serve as liaison with university central offices as appropriate (Provost, Budget, Business and Administration, Human Resources)
- Assess and develop forecasts of alternate budget scenarios budget reductions, expansions, reorganizations, new programs, program reduction and/or elimination
- Perform and/or oversee professional staff delegation of division-level approvals for all applicable actions (budget, financial, additional pay, position recruitment/changes, security access, etc.)
- Pursue professional development and involvement with regional and national organizations to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices; review literature and industry studies/reports relevant to higher education business administration
- Maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and organizational sensitivity in work performed, particularly work that has a broader impact on the division and university

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a business or public administration related field from an accredited university, plus a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible business and management experience in a higher education or related setting.
Other Required Qualifications
- The successful candidate will possess a wide range of business management knowledge in a large university environment: academic operations, auxiliary operations, management of student fees and other receipts, fund accounting principles, development and fundraising, grants management, human resources and payroll, budget and financial analysis and management, enterprise management systems and other relevant systems and tools.

- The ability to work both individually and collaboratively in teams, effective management and delegation skills, the willingness and desire to continuously learn about new techniques and trends, and the ability to work at all levels in the organization are preferred attributes.
