Department Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Oregon invites applications for potential postdoctoral research scholar positions. Positions are available on an ongoing basis to conduct research within different research groups.

Position Summary

Postdoctoral Scholar positions are funding contingent and temporary in nature, with one year appointments but with the possibility of renewal up to five years depending on need, funding and performance.

Postdoctoral Scholar appointees will conduct research under the direction of a faculty member for the purpose of acquiring research training.

Postdoctoral Position in theoretical physical chemistry studies of mixed quantum/semi-classical dynamics and molecular spectroscopy: A postdoctoral research position is available in Professor Jeffrey Cina's theoretical physical chemistry group. The work will focus on developing, applying, and interpreting mixed quantum mechanical/semi-classical theory for the quantitative simulation of the dynamics and time-resolved spectroscopic signals of systems of tens or hundreds of atoms. Initial targets will include symmetric clusters designed—with increasing size—to more and more accurately represent small-molecule species embedded in the bulk, condensed-phase environment of a rare-gas matrix. The successful applicant must be skilled at both analytical theory and large-scale computation on a high-performance cluster platform.

Please upload a current CV that includes a publication list and personal statement.

In addition, applicants are asked to have three letters of recommendation sent on their behalf to Jeff Cina,

Postdoctoral Positions in Spectroscopy of Environmental Liquid Surfaces: Two postdoctoral positions are currently available in Prof. Geri Richmond's laboratory at the University of Oregon in experimental studies of molecular adsorption and assembly at liquid surfaces of environmental importance. The positions involve (1) Molecular level studies of important atmospheric processes at vapor/water interfaces and (2) Spectroscopic and computational studies of adsorption at assembly of surfactants and biomolecules at nanoemulsion surfaces. Applicants must have experience in pulsed laser spectroscopic methods and experience/interest in computational comparative studies.

Minimum Requirements

All candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field to be considered.
