Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Dr. Chris Pierce is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Laboratory of Addiction Neuroscience in the RWJMS Department of Psychiatry. The focus of our work is identifying the circuit, cellular and molecular changes underlying the transition to addiction using rodent models. The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Dr. Pierce and will contribute to ongoing projects and develop independent research projects that fall within the broader research goals of lab. Responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Fellow include designing, organizing, executing and communicating the results of research studies that further the aims of the lab. Research topics are flexible and can include cutting edge methods such as single cell RNA-seq, optogenetics and patch clamp electrophysiology. The Department has a strong track record in supporting postdocs and junior investigators to successfully obtain competitive research funding including awards from the National Institutes of Health.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Perform neuroscience experiments focused on the mechanisms underlying stimulant or opioid addiction using rodent models.
  • Perform circuit, cellular or molecular experiments depending on the specific nature of the research project.
  • Take a lead role in communicating the results of studies through scientific journal articles and conference presentations.
  • Work with the research team to ensure conformance with the quality standards of the research lab.
  • Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments.
  • Assist with grant and IRB protocol preparation.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students as well as research assistants conducting research in the laboratory.
